The writer also penned the inaugural Black Label book, Batman: Damned, as well as a Birds of Prey miniseries last year. Suicide Squad: Get Joker is the third Black Label book for Brian Azzarello. The premise of the series also sounds somewhat similar to the excellent current Joker ongoing series by James Tynion IV and Guillem March, in which former GCPD commissioner James Gordon has been hired to hunt down and kill The Joker. This’ll be the second time in recent memory that Jason has been tasked with taking down The Joker, after last year’s sales smash Batman: Three Jokers, and the first time that Waller’s Suicide Squad has been put on the case. Making Red Hood Jason Todd a part of the Suicide Squad is kind of a no-brainer, and it’s surprising it hasn’t been done before, even if it sounds like it’s just temporary for this series. I just want to know what do you think about this perspective.When Task Force X’s Amanda Waller sets her sights on Batman’s greatest foe, she enlists the Dark Knight’s former partner Jason Todd to track down the Clown Prince of Crime and put an end to his mad reign of terror! Don't get upset, cuz being DC fans doesn't mean we all have to like every DC product. Anyway, I'm sure some of you will understand what I mean, and some of you will get upset. Maybe it works better with villains like Victor Zsasz.
Azzarello thinks that the nonsense violence makes the Joker more attractive, but that's not the main thing that we love from the Joker.
A rapist Joker is unnecessary and Azzarello's novel exaggerates with its baseless violence. He just tries to have fun creating chaos. The Joker should never be related to money or lust. The Joker is more than just trying to impress the reader with nonsense brutality like when he skinned one of his henchmen. I know that the Joker has evolved through time during the 20th century, but, by now, it shouldn't evolve anymore, it has already developed a solid personality that shouldn't change. I think that this version of the Joker is okay when it doesn't mean changing the character entirely, and that's what Azzarello did in some way. Other people prefer a version of the Joker who is barely laughing and is only trying to be more brutal. I know that there are a lot of versions of the Joker, and I always prefered a balance between a violent criminal and a clown that is always trying to have fun and make jokes.
I considered it an interesting story, but I hated what Azzarello did to the Joker. I just read Joker by Azzarello and Bermejo.
